A Stable & Purposeful
Life Begins with Home.

When we have a home that meets our needs, we can find stability and security that support our health, well-being, and livelihood.

Home is Where it all starts

Envisions A Future Where Every Arizonan Has A Place to Be at Home.

To build an Arizona where we all have a place to be at home, Home is where it all starts focuses on:

  • Transforming narratives around housing to focus on the importance of every Arizonan having a home that meets
    their needs.
  • Creating a network of supporters for housing solutions that meet people’s needs.
  • Making housing options that fit people’s needs a reality for more people.

To achieve these outcomes, we encourage Arizonans to:

  • Change how you talk about housing.
  • Read our data and learn about the impact of homes that meet all of our needs.
  • Support efforts that bring affordable rents and mortgages into your neighborhood or community.
  • Stay informed on policies that put homes within everyone’s reach.
  • Become engaged and vocal about your support for housing legislation.
  • Support decision makers who are thoughtful and knowledgeable about housing-related issues.

People in the healthiest Arizona Neighborhoods

Live Over 24 years Longer Than People in the Least Healthy Neighborhoods.

This is largely because it is harder for those in the second group to access healthcare, jobs, and transportation, as well as food, child care, and schools.

But if all of Arizona’s families had a home that meets their needs, we could close the gap and build stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities across Arizona.

Change How You Talk About Housing

  • Say “affordable rents and mortgages,” “homes that meet our needs,” or “homes within reach,” instead of “affordable housing.”

  • Why does it matter? When people hear the term “affordable housing”, they often think of a particular “type” of housing, and the “type” of neighborhood they’ve learned to associate that housing with. It shuts down debate rather than opens up conversations about what is possible.

  • In reality, the concept of a home with a rent or mortgage payment we can afford is something we can all relate to. It also takes many different forms; it is not just one type of housing for one type of person or community.
